Before the Blooming

Before the Blooming

122 cm x 90 cm Mixed media on board Part of the "Come see real flowers of this painful world" exhibition. This work explores the metaphorical meaning of the above haiku, using images of decaying leaves, the colours of autumn and tree resin, int succinct divisions that mimic the rhythms of Basho's haikus, which focused on the power of the word rather than the exact pattern of syllables that strict Haiku etiquette of 5-7-5 called for.
